MOLDABLE AND MACHINABLE POROUS CARBON STRUCTURES OBTAINED FROM WHEY
نویسندگان
چکیده
A new porous carbon structures made by sintering whey powder in a mold at 150ºC and subsequent carbonization and/or activation are described. These represent step beyond simple activated monoliths, as they can take the shape of any machined if necessary. materials have porosity that reach up 70%, system hierarchical interconnected pores, which gives them high permeability. Furthermore, much higher mechanical strength than other monoliths. Key Words: structures, carbon, machining, sintering, whey, powder.

Hierachical Porous Carbon Structures from Cellulose Acetate Fibers
This study describes the transformation of cellulose acetate filters into porous carbon structures by a facile, direct process. Filters from cigarettes were used as the source for cellulose acetate filters. Carbon was obtained by high-temperature treatment under inert conditions without extensive preparative methods. The resulting carbon materials showed structural features on different length ...
متن کاملFullerenes generated from porous structures.
A class of macromolecules based on the architecture of the well-known fullerenes is theoretically investigated. The building blocks used to geometrically construct these molecules are the two dimensional structures: porous graphene and biphenylene-carbon. Density functional-based tight binding methods as well as reactive molecular dynamics methods are applied to study the electronic and structu...
متن کاملAntimicrobial Peptides Derived from Goat’s Milk Whey Proteins Obtained by Enzymatic Hydrolysis
In this study the bacterial growth inhibitory activity of peptide fragments produced from goat’s milk whey proteins by enzymatic hydrolysis using trypsin, ficin and a combination of both was investigated. Goat’s milk whey proteins were isolated and subjected to enzymatic hydrolysis and peptides were purified by ultrafiltration followed by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP...
متن کاملHigh-capacity adsorption of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution using a hierarchical porous carbon obtained from pig bone.
A hierarchical porous carbon obtained from pig bone (HPC) was utilized as the adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution. The effects of solution pH value, concentration of Cr(VI), and adsorption temperature on the removal of Cr(VI) were investigated. The experimental data of the HPC fitted well with the Langmuir isotherm and its adsorption kinetic followed pseudo-second order model....
متن کاملCrystal Structures of Archaemetzincin Reveal a Moldable Substrate-Binding Site
BACKGROUND Archaemetzincins are metalloproteases occurring in archaea and some mammalia. They are distinct from all the other metzincins by their extended active site consensus sequence HEXXHXXGXXHCX(4)CXMX(17)CXXC featuring four conserved cysteine residues. Very little is known about their biological importance and structure-function relationships. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Here we present three cr...
